29th El Tour De Tucson 2011 was this weekend which is the largest one day cycling event in the US in Tucson, Arizona. People come from all over the world to enjoy the one day event in sunny Tucson, Arizona. This years event was the 2nd largest attendence since the beginning of the race 29 years ago.

We set out on a 90 day challenge of setting some goals of some things we wanted to accomplish and riding El Tour De Tucson on our tandem bike was an item on our 90 day challenge list.

It is amazing what one can accomplish by setting some goals and making them public. There were a few things on our list that we probably would have not done had it not been for putting together this challenge for ourselves. El Tour De Tucson being one of them. We debated on doing the race but since we made the commitment we did it. We waited to the last minute and signed up at 7 PM the night before the race with the thoughts of having fun, being safe, and finishing strong.

We ended up getting 2nd place overall tandem just getting nudged out of 1st place by two seconds to Paul Thomas and Noreen Carey a local husband and wife team. Great job to Paul and Noreen!

Also a big thanks to Richard DeBernardis the founder and race promoter of the PBAA events which includes El Tour De Tucson. Richard does so much for the Tucson community and without Richard Tucson would not be the community it is. Also a big thanks to all the volunteers, police officer support, crew support out there, and my brother Cole for providing wheel support and a feed at the 2nd river crossing. Nice to see the community come together for this event!

This years race had a couple cool retired professional athletes riding the race. Ex NBA star Bill Walton and major league baseball player Barry Bonds disputed home run king were out there riding strong.
