Back on October 2, 2011 we challenged ourselves with a 90 Day Challenge which has been tons of fun!
Yesterday we hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and get to check another item off the list.
We did a 17 mile loop starting out on the South Kaibab Trail which takes you to the bottom of the Grand Canyon where you cross the Colorado River. From there you trek along side the Colorado River then head up the Bright Angel Trail for a killer climb out of the canyon. The total trek is about 17 miles.
We were a little nervous starting out because of the weather. It was cold, snowy and 25 degrees at the top of the rim with clouds in the sky. We debated on going but said…
What the heck it will only make for a good story if some serious weather rolls in!
It turned out to be a great day. It stayed over cast and cloudy. Once we started down the trail and got out of the snow it was beautiful. At the bottom of the canyon it was in the high 50′s. As we got to the top we ended with snow flurries. We finished up just in time. The total trek took us about 5 1/2 hours.
For those of you into the outdoors and up for an awesome hike this is one thing you should put on your bucket list of things to do.
One of the neat things about going to the Grand Canyon is there are people all over the world that come to visit the canyon. We meet some really cool people out on the trail.
We stopped to fill up our water bottles at Indian Garden and there was a group of guys on a man trip from Poland that we visited with. They are pictured below and on the video above. They said they would visit our blog so if you are reading this HELLO from Tyler & Mimi!
