Many People start off in network marketing not sure of what they are doing. They don’t feel confident with making the decision to really work a network marketing business.

Below are some tips on how to start out strong in network marketing:

1. Proclaim Yourself to the world!

  • Tell everyone you know that you found something new that is going to change your life
  • Tell everyone that you are going to take charge of your life
  • Make the proclamation to family and friends so you can get their support
  • Don’t tip toe in to network marketing because then you can tip toe out and no one will know the difference

2. Network- Introduce yourself to everyone

  • Tell them your story and why you joined the network marketing profession
  • Brand Yourself
  • Make people aware that you exist
  • Make friends
  • Connect

3. Develope your stories

  • Develop your stories so you can tell them to people you meet
  • Have a why you are in the network marketing profession story
  • Have a  product story
  • Have a overcoming obstacles story
  • Have a building belief in the product story
  • Have a building belief in the company story
  • Have a rank advancement story
  • Have an income story
  • Focus on telling stories and keep them short and to the point

Mimi started with the most remarkable product story about her nephew Justin. Most people she knew tried Vemma just because of that story. The mortgage company that Tyler worked for filed bankruptcy and closed their doors and that became our why we started the business story.  These were 2 powerful stories that catapulted our Vemma business. Create your story and go proclaim it to the world!

I just got done listening to Disc # 3 in Eric Worre’s Go Pro CD and there is a great section about setting proper expectations which I think is so important. Many people don’t do this step but really need to. In network marketing setting expectations upfront with your newest Vemma and Verve brand partners is extremely important for long-term success.

When setting expectations use the 1-3-5-7 formula when talking to the newest member.

  • It will take you one year to be functional and profitable. Rich in a year? NO! Functional and profitable YES! There’s an occasional exception to the rule.
  • It is going to take you three years part-time, 10 to 15 hours a week, committed, working hard to make a full-time income. Three years on average!
  • About five years to become a high-end income earner.
  • It will take you about seven years to become financially free creating a high 6 figure to 7 figure residual income.

Too many times I see people have unrealistic expectation and not get the immediate income results they were looking for. Guess what happens? You guessed it; they quit and blame the the MLM profession on their failure saying it did not work while bad mouthing the industry.

If expectations are set properly on day one you will have long-term committed people in your organization that will not blame you or the network marketing profession for their lack of success.  If you were to start a new profession you would not expect to make a six figure income in the first 6 to 12 months, so why is network marketing any different? You would work hard setting goals on your way to success. Well network marketing is no different and setting proper expectations upfront with your newest member is one of the most important things you can do.

If someone is new in network marketing and is full-time in the profession because they lost their job the best advice you could give them is get a job. It means being employed by someone else in the meantime while building their future. The “Hail Mary Pass” of trying to cram a 3 year curve into 6 months is devastating. You will loose your newest person for life. It is much better to set realistic expectations upfront.

I have been taking Dale Carnegie’s course How To Win Friends and Influence People in Tucson, AZ. It is an awesome course that is once a week for 14 weeks for about 4 hours a night. I would highly recommend the course for those that want to take personal growth and development to the next level. One big key to success in network marketing is working on YOU!

Jim Rohn says it best – For things to change, you have to change. For things to get better, you have to get better!

If you work on the 9 Dale Carnegie principles below you will become a friendlier person which will help you expand your network marketing business.

  1. Don’t criticize, condemn or complain.
  2. Give honest, sincere appreciation.
  3. Arouse in the other person an eager want.
  4. Become genuinely interested in the other person.
  5. Smile :)
  6. Remember that a person’s name is that person the sweetest and most important sound in any language.
  7. Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves.
  8. Talk in terms of the other person’s interests.
  9. Make the other person feel important and do it sincerely.
