Love the Opportunity by Jim Rohn

Somebody said you have to love what you do, but that’s not necessarily true. What is true is that you have to love the opportunity. The opportunity to build life, future, health, success and fortune. Knocking on someone’s door or making that extra call may not be something you love to do, but you love the opportunity of what might be behind that door or call.

For example, a guy says, “I’m digging ditches. Should I love digging ditches?” The answer is, “No, you don’t have to love digging ditches, but if it is your first entry onto the ladder of success, you say, ‘I’m glad somebody gave me the opportunity to dig ditches and I’m going to do it so well, I won’t be here long.”

You can be inspired by having found something; even though you are making mistakes in the beginning and even though it is a little distasteful taking on a new discipline that you haven’t learned before. You don’t have to love it, you just have to learn to appreciate where you live, appreciate opportunity and appreciate the person who brought you the good news—who found you.

Appreciate the person who believed in you before you believed in yourself, appreciate the person who said, “Hey, if I can do it, you can do it.”

If you will embrace the disciplines associated with the new opportunity you will soon find that your self-confidence starts to grow, that you go from being a skeptic to being a believer. And soon, when you go out person to person, talking to people, you will find it to be the most thrilling opportunity in the world. Every person you meet—what could it be? Unlimited! Maybe a friend for life. The next person could be an open door to retiring. The next person could be a colleague for years to come. It’s big-time stuff. And sometimes in the beginning when we are just getting started we don’t always see how big it is.

So, before you are tempted to give up or get discouraged, remember all success is based on long-term commitment, faith, discipline, attitude and a few stepping stones along the way. You might not like the stone you are on right now, but it’s sure to be one of the stones that lead to great opportunities in the future.

For things to change you have to change! For things to get better you have to get better! – Jim Rohn

At this years 2010 Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii the theme was Anything Is Possible! The message was so perfect as how it relates to life and building your Vemma business. If given the proper time, training, commitment and belief in yourself anything is possible. The question is how bad do you want it and what are you willing to do to make anything possible?

This past week was so inspiring to be surrounded by top athletes from all over the world from all ages and backgrounds that have the attitude that anything is possible.

My road to Kona would not have been possible without all the love and support from my Vemma family, friends, training partners, coaches, family and most importantly Tyler. He has been my strength all the way through! Thank you Tyler for putting up with me during this preparation to Kona!

My path to the road to Kona has been many great life leasons that I enjoyed sharing with all of you on our blog. I have grown as a person as result of  my training for the challenge and now off to many more challenges to come. For me that is what life is about; CHALLENGING YOURSELF EVERYDAY TO BECOME A BETTER PERSON!

Although I did not achieve the goal of top 5 in my age group to finish is to win. You can’t win in life unless you show up at the starting line.

Below is a video of various clips we took throughout the week. Mahlo!

This past weekend was the Leadville Trail 100 Mountain Bike Race aka “Race Across The Sky” which Tyler dedicated to Rodger Hanft. Rodger is a close family member who has a stage 4 glioma brain tumor which is terminal. Rodger, pictured below, is fighting for his life!

A week prior to the event we had dinner with Rodger and he let us know that Leadville, Colorado is a special place for him and that he wants his ashes spread at Rainbow Lake. Rainbow Lake is in the Leadville, CO area and the bike course for the Leadville 100 goes near the lake.

Tyler dedicated his ride to Rodger and at about mile 80 started to struggle. Tyler dug deep and knew that in order to dedicated the ride to Rodger he had to finish. Rodger was a BIG inspiration to Tyler during the race.

The course was 104 miles with over 10,000 feet of climbing with a max elevation of around 12,500 feet. It took Tyler 10 hrs and 43 minutes to complete. Not bad for very little training for the event. Watch the video above to see how Tyler got into the event last minute.

A BIG thanks to Dave Wiens and Travis Brown and his wife Mary for making Leadville possible for me.

Below are some pictures I took at the event.

Tour de France and cycling super star Levi Leipheimer broke Lance Armstrong’s record of last year and won the event. Below is a picture of Tyler and Levi.

After the awards Tyler and I had the opportunity to visit with Leadville 100 legend Dave Wiens and another star athlete Travis Brown. Dave Wiens beat Lance Armstrong in 2008 during Lance Armstrong’s comeback.

Tyler was pretty spanked after the ride as you can see below.

Be Grateful

The economy has shaken a lot of people which has led to a rise in habitual complaining. Jon Gordon says there are two main reasons why people complain.

  • We complain because we feel powerless.
  • We complain because it’s a habit.

We are all guilty of complaining form time-to-time and we want to encourage everyone to go without complaining because it will help you have a more positive life with Peace and Joy

Here are 5 tips from Jon Gordon on how to live a more positive life without complaining:

1. Practice Gratitude: When we are grateful it boosts our happiness which uplifts and energizes us. One can’t possibly be grateful and negative at the same time.

2. Praise Others: Focus on what people are doing right instead of looking at what people are doing wrong. Encourage them and praise them for their accomplishments!

3. Focus on Success: At the end of the day look at one great thing you did for the day.

4. Let Go: Focus on the things that you have the power to change, and let go of the things that are beyond your control.

5. Pray: Scientific research shows that daily prayer reduces stress; boosts positive energy; and promotes health, vitality, and longevity
